This half term we are learning about all things to do with magic! We will be looking at witches and wizards and the things that make up the wizarding world. We will be focusing on the Harry Potter books and how he manages his time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
In English we will be looking at nouns, verbs, adjectives, inverted comma's to use in our stories about witches and wizards. We will be also focusing on what makes a sentence and consolidating capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Maths, we are focusing on multiplication and division. We will be doing it practically using objects such as counters to practice sharing equally among friends. and using our 2, 5, and 10 times tables to solve questions.
In Theme and Science, we will be making exciting potions, wands and broomsticks as well as writing exciting stories and looking for mini beasts in our local environment.
This half term we are learning about all things cold! We will be having a focus on the Arctic and Antarctic and the habitats that are found there. The books we will be using are Lost and Found and lots of non-fiction stories.
In English we will be using our prediction, spelling and grammar and retelling skills to write stories and create fact files about Arctic and Antarctic animals. To do this, we will be using Ipads and computers to research information to find facts and interesting stories about these particular animals.
In Maths, we will be doing lots of measuring! We will be doing measuring using non-standard units such as blocks and cubes as well as using rulers and measuring jugs. We will be continuing our work on counting in 2's and 5's as well as using our addition and subtraction skills.
In Theme and Science will be continuing learning about the Arctic and Antarctic and comparing them to different habitats around the world; such as jungles, deserts and grassland.
This half term we are learning about light and dark. We are using the Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, Laura's Star and looking at Neil Armstrong and the moon landing. We will be using these stories and events to support our learning.
In English we will be using adjectives and conjunctions to write a range of interesting sentences and practicing our comprehension skills through a range of texts.
In Maths we will be working with our 2, 5 and 10 times tables and answering a range of questions. We will also be using our place value skills and solving reasoning problems.
In science we will be using our topic of light and dark to support our learning. We will be looking at light sources, shadows, making shadow puppets and reflections.
In ICT, we will be practising our keyboard and mouse skills and are beginning to learn about basic coding. E-safety will be ongoing throughout the year - learning to be safe and careful on the web.
In the Autumn term 1 we are learning about castles, we are looking at the different types of castles and the features that are part of these castles. We are also going to look at the Battle of Hastings. We are going to be using our topic to support or English and Maths.
In English we will be continuing to use our phonics and high frequency words to write and read sentences.
In Maths we are looking at place value to 100 as well as addition and subtraction using a range of methods.
In Science we will be looking at different materials that we can find around us. We will be looking at what makes a strong castle and how to separate our recycling into the correct groups.
